From beat to void and back

His aptly titled new realease “No rules, No frames” is an epic embarkment through time, space and the virtues of purely instrumental beat tapes. Strange sounds whizz by to melt away into the nothingness of white noise, where subtly, a beat starts building up again. For a listener muscling the stamina for the 55-minute ride, it can be quite an experience. You will be sucked in under false pretenses of smooth and jazzy sounds, only to be devoured by industrial, clanking riot and spit out again, wondering about what the hell you just heard. And while you still ponder it, the tape will already have you bouncing along again. Smokey131 from Germany has teamed up with the Swedish producer Joel Siméus for this very atmospheric tape. The two beatsmiths have really inspired each other to some crazy ideas.
